Inspection Visit in Daegu - Day 1

Today was the first day of inspections for the Summer Universiade Supervision Commission members who will be visiting Daegu from 6th to 8th May. The members in attendance are G.E. Killian, C. Anastassov, R. Outeiriño, Li Guobin, C.L. Gallien and E. Saintrond.

Today, the commission visited the Inter Burgo Hotel, which will serve as FISU headquarters during the Universiade. This hotel will also host the General Assembly of FISU.

The commission then visited the University of Yeungnam where the FISU conference will be held. The FISU representatives were welcomed by the President of the University, Sang Chun Lee and participated in the official inauguration of the future location of the conference. Founded in 1947, the University of Yeugnam was selected in 1999 for the fourth consecutive year as the 'University of Excellence for Educational Reform' by the Korean government.

The commission members then took part in a working meeting with the Organising Committee, chaired by the Executive President of the Games, Mr. Park Sang Ha. The Organizing Committee presented the provisional invitation that will soon be sent to the university sports associations. The financial aid programme for emerging countries was also discussed and the O.C. confirmed that a budget of 300,000 US$ will be allocated to this program for the Daegu Universiade.

In the evening, the FISU representatives were welcomed by the President of the Organizing Committee and Mayor of the city of Daegu, Mr. Moon Higab.
